My satellite receiver only has a Scart plug out and my projector (Sanyo Z2)
lacks one. I have linked them up using an Scart to SVideo adapter but that
gives me a pretty awful black and white picture. What am I doing wrong? How
do I get the best picture quality from my sat receiver (while I am waiting
for HDTV to start first trials in January)?

Have you set the Sat to output s-video? It sounds like its outputting
composite which equates to the luminence of the s-video signal (black
and white), and youre missing the chrominance (colour).

Gary.

Very few sat receivers can actually output S-Video though so this may not be
possible.

The best solution would be to connect the RGB SCART on your Sat to the VGA
input on your projector.

You will need a DVI-DB15 dongle (couple of quid from a computer store), and
a VGA to SCART cable wired as follows:-

R->R
G->G
B->B
Composite->HSYNC

This gives absolutely outstanding results.

Regards,

Steve

My satellite feeds to a ProV which converts it to VGA. AV Sales have them
here:

I have the far uglier discontinued one, but it does the job just fine...

Thanks Gary, that was indeed it (and yes, my Philips Sat digital sat
receiver can switch to S-Video, it just took a while before I found it).
