I have the following equipment.



A standard Sky box (not Plus or HD),



A Pioneer PDP-507XD plasma :-

and a Pioneer VSX-1016V-S amplifier :-

I am not sure what is the best way to get the Sky picture onto the =
Plasma, for the sound I have a fair idea.



The amp is confusing the issue for me as it has so many inputs that I =
would like to utilise if possible if picture quality

can be improved in any way due to an analogue signal being used with the =
Sky box.



I was thinking of connecting a good quality 2 meter SCART cable directly =
between the Sky box and plasma.

(I would connect the sound directly to the amp using the left & right =
audio outputs from the Sky box).



Is this a good idea or should I connect the Sky box directly to my =
amplifier using a SCART to component type cable? Is there a cable that =
can transmit the sound also maybe?

I would only need a 1M cable for this.

I am assuming the HDMI cable connected between the amp and the plasma =
would then relay the Sky picture onto the plasma.



Any advise greatly appreciated.

Where youre using Standard Sky I woulndt bother putting the video
via tha AMP. I cant imagine there is any way that the amp will be
able to improve the picture. SKY box SCART to the TV is best. Ensure
you connect to an RGB enabled SCART on the TV (at least one of the
three should be - normally labelled SCART1). Do Sky boxes not have a
digital out? Been a while since I had one so I cant recall. If it
does id use that for the audio, but otherwise the two audio phonos
will have to do.

Thing is a plasma display delays the picture and decent ones will have a
delay added to the sound to bring it into sync. If you route the picture
from a STB etc to the set and the sound to an external amp youll lose
this sync - with the sound leading the picture which is most unnatural. So
the best way is to route both sound and vision through the set then feed
the sound to the external amp. Not the answer you want if you have several
sources close to an AV amp which also switches video. Although some of the
better ones have the facility to alter the sound timing for this express
reason.
