After googling Ive discovered what I think might be the cause of my problem
and would appreciate if someone who knows (likely someone here?) could
confirm or deny for me.

Im connecting a MCE PC with a coax SPDIF output to my AV amp and I am only
getting L + R front speaker output. The amp doesnt light up the rear or
centre speaker on its display but the PC is definately trying to output all
channels. Could it be the cable? Im using and old video lead that happens
to have the right plugs on it.

Do I need a specific cable to gett full 5.1 sound?

No it should not be a cable issue but what doe you mean by an old video
cable. Is it one made up by you and did it use 75ohm cable? This is the
impedance requirement of the SP/DIF spec.

Have you checked your PC settings (XP?), your sound card settings, Your PC
software settings?, your AV amp settings?

You need to post more info when you ask this kind of question. Lets see it
