What makes you think that swearing is any less useful in communicatiing
feelings? After all swear words are just as much words as any other.

Why should fuck off be any less useful or looked down upon than go
away? They both say the same thing, but the profane version supplies
something the non-profane doesnt; emotion. Id say that was a far more
efficient manner of communicating in a relatively emotionless medium
such as Usenet.

interesting view - and one Id totally agree with if it was known to the
entire potential audience that this was the case and a requirement of the
group. In this case the group is of considerable use to the many and I have
learnt a lot. If there were 2 versions - one swearing and one not with equal
value content - I would choose to read the non offensive version. This is my
point - you are communicating to strangers and it is presumptuous and
frankly - rude - to assume everyone wants to read this sort of conversation
emphasis/emotion. I could quite imagine talking to the Queen would be a tad
dull - but I wouldnt look to spice it up by throwing a few fucks (or the
such) into the conversation. Are you really telling me you would? i also
found my grandparents rather monotonous - and I really cant see that
telling them Its a fucking nice day would lift the interest!
