Well, I have just been to everyones favourite electrical retailer (not) &
had a look at some newer LCD screens against plasmas. The LCD screens have
much lower contrast ratios than the plasmas but on all apart from one, the
blacks looked solid & black. No motion blur was in evidence on most of them
& all in all they look very nice. Prices have come down to reasonable levels
& the connectivity is miles better than Plasma sets. I saw a Vision 32 inch
LCD (re-badged LG panel I think) & the picture was stunning for Ł1700 (this
was in Empire). The Philips one even has 4 scarts & component inputs etc.

I might abandon my plans for a projector & bag myself a 32 inch LCD!!!

Anyone got any experience of the new range of LCDs?

Just to keep this on topic, the Philips comes with a very nice Philips all
in one setup with wifi speakers if required!!!

I think LCDs are at the point plasmas were about 2 or 3 years ago.
Eventually they will look a whole lot better than they do now - at the
moment they still seem to be over-priced.

I did the grabs via a Duomix61 grabber as used by security sources
I never grabbed them on a PC mate -they went via IE56575 to a fancy
technical thingie grabber -or something - un-named Video capture expert

Ambient light affects LCDs more than plasmas, so its worth considering the
environment in which you see the set demonstrated too. Are you going to
place the screen opposite a south facing window, for instance?

The best skinny TV picture I have *ever* seen was on the new Panny
22 LCD with built-in DVD player. The detail was awesome and the
dynamic range superb on Small Soldiers - virtually 3-dimensional. I
suspect this may have a lot to do with the direct player to TV
connection, but it was vastly better than Ive seen on any other LCD.
Mind you, at Ł2200 it should be!

Next to that, the new 42 Pioneer plasma rooolz.

One thing I did see today which amazed me was a OEM Vision 42incher. The
contrast ratio was 3000:1 & it looked bloody superb for a stunning Ł1700!!!!

Now thats a bargain, I think its a 4th generation Panny panel in a OEM
case.
