Hello!

I am about to enter the world of 6.1 surround sound with this set up:

* Receiver - Denon AVR-1604 :
http://uk.pricerunner.com/sound-and-vision/sound/receivers/169308/details

* Speakers - Yamaha NSP-106 :
http://uk.pricerunner.com/sound-and-vision/sound/speakers/169217/details

* Pioneer 454 DVD player (probably will upgrade to a prog scan player
soon!)

* TV with one scart socket and the 3 video/audio (?) inputs (i.e. the
red, yellow and white inputs)

However, as a newcomer to this sort of thing (as you can tell), I have
no idea what interconnects/cables I require for such a setup...

Any help/diagrams would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Al

Hello Al

Are you planning on retaining the option to use the Stereo
loudspeakers on your TV as well as the Surround Sound modes via the
new AV Receiver?

What other sources do you have?

If your TV only has one SCART socket it doesnt sound like it will be
compatible with a Progressive Scan DVD player - youll need a TV with
YUV Component video In before a Progressive DVD makes any sense for
you.

Is the SCART socket on your TV RGB compatible or not - youll need to
read the book of words to find out or look in the TV set up menu.

Best regards

Joe

Hello!

Thanks for your reply...

Im not too fussed about keeping the option for stereo... what are the
implications of keeping it or not?

Yes - the SCART socket is RGB compatible.

Thanks

Al

Hello Al

01. If you want to retain the use of your TV speakers you simply need
to ensure all of your SCART cables are fully wired and not wired for
RGB Video only.

02. DVD player - Pioneer UK are just about to launch the DV-575
Universal (DVD, DVD-A and SACD) player which we (and others) will be
retailing at Ł150 which has RGB via SCART plus Progressive YUV; seems
like an ideal unit for now and the future.

03. SCART switching - assuming you have a Digibox you can simply daisy
chain the RGB from the DVD player via the RGB In socket on your
Digibox to the single RGB socket on your TV - simpy put the Digibox
into standby when you want to view the DVD player.

Best regards

Joe

Word of caution here. I have a Nokia 221T Freeview receiver. This does have
a scart input socket as well as an output, so can be daisy chained.

*However* the scart input does not accept RGB. Hence some loss of quality
will result if used in a daisy chain in between another source and a TV.

Hence if daisy chaining, check first that the relevant items have input
and output scarts that will pass through RGB. Not all digital receivers
will do this.

(At one time I have a DVD/VCR combo that also would not accept RGB in, so
also lost quality of used in a daisy chain.)

Slainte,

Jim
